SilverStone SX1000 Review

SilverStone’s SX1000 was a fully modular 1000W SFX-L power supply with 80+ platinum rating. This was the smallest 1000W power suppy at time of release and remained so for quite some time.

CABLES

SX1000 uses flat unsleeved ribbon cables. The 24-PIN cable is proprietary and includes 4pin sense cable/connector for better efficiency. Each of the three included 8-PIN PCIe cables include dual 6+2-PIN connectors.

NOISE PROFILE

The SX1000 features 0RPM upto 300W and outputs between 20~25dB(A) noise upto 700W. The included fan produces noticable motor noise, which is audible alongside the fan noise between 300~700W range. Noise output substantially increases above 700W with max output of 45dB(A) at 1000W. Noise data sourced from Cybenetics.

TEARDOWN

The SilverStone SX1000 (v1.1) uses 120x15mm Globe Fan at 12v, 0.45amp (model: B1201512HB) with 2-PIN mini fan header.

SUMMARY / CONCLUSIONS

The SilverStone SX1000 was ahead of its time, and remained that way for quite some time. While it’s not a particularly loud power supply, it is however let down by the included dual ball bearing fan. The SilverStone SX1000 has since been subceeded the SX1000R and Extreme 1200R.
